It’s Okay To Be Selfish

The road of the caregiver brings lots of challenges and many opportunities for sadness, but keep your eyes on Jesus and maintain a heart of gratitude. Remember, it could always be worst and the best is yet to come. I tell myself almost daily that “my best days are ahead of me and not behind me” and that puts a smile on my face and joy in my heart. No, I am not happy about my 10 year journey as a caregiver and the many situations that come up. But once I cast my eyes beyond the present, my strength is renewed because I know in who I trust.

Caregivers must learn to take care of themselves. In my book See Me Hear Me Know Me, from The Heart of a Caregiver, I shared what has been helpful to me over the past decade as a caregiver for my husband.
