Have you ever been at a place in life where you were waiting for further instructions? You’ve made it this far but now you are not sure how you should proceed. Now that I’ve graduated what do I do? Now that my kids are grown whose needs do I attend to? The person I thought I would love forever has left me. Whether in death or divorce, you never envision life without your spouse.
As we navigate this journey called life, there will be many bumps in the road. No matter how well we plan, things have a way of shifting in an unexpected way. It would be an illness, loss of a job, or simply a twist in our best laid plan.
Some changes we know are coming so we prepare in advance. Others catch us by surprise and often knock us off of our feet. So what do you do? In Ecclesiastes 9:11 Solomon writes “I have seen something else under the sun: The race is not to the swift or the battle to the strong, nor does food come to the wise or wealth to the brilliant or favor to the learned; but time and chance happen to them all.” This does not mean that God is not governing our affairs but that there are just somethings that are beyond our control.
I reached an unexpected bump in the road recently when some personal health challenges surfaced. As caregiver for my husband, I know all too well how poor health can impact your vision for life. I am diligent to take care of myself as I know I cannot take care of him unless I am healthy. So imagine my surprise when I found myself in need of care and support for my health.
Maybe you’ve been there, when you just don’t understand what is happening. And you wonder what am I supposed to do now? Well rest assured my friend that the same God who guides us on the mountain will guide us through the valley. He is our source of provision in consistency and in the inconsistencies of life.
